The rain fell in tiny delicate droplets as I board the ferry, holding the package tightly against my chest. My stepfather would be up by now, wondering where I am when he goes to look around the house. He will come to look for me here, this I know clearly. But by the time he comes, I won't be here anymore. I'll be long gone, away from his grasp, free from my fears...
Or so I thought.
The ferry stopped abruptly and all of the passengers get up to see what happened. I stayed where I was, pressing my back against the hard seat, trying to blend in. My nerves were still wild and uncontrollable. There was a small twinge of fear that he would
